Chrismons Information

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Chrismons?

Chrismons are Monograms of Jesus Christ. They are Non-denominational Christmas tree decorations that teach the word of God through a creative activity.

How do I begin making Chrismons?

The best way to start your Chrismon tree is to purchase the BASIC BOOK and download our PRICELIST

or call (704) 636-7790 to request one be mailed. Choose a pattern, compile your supply list and place your order. Don't try to order supplies for the whole BASIC BOOK at one time. Many supply items overlap and you will save money by ordering more often and using your left over materials on the next project. Don't become frustrated by trying to do too many patterns on your first attempt. Orders are shipped daily (Mon. thru Fri.) so you should receive them promptly.

How much is shipping and handling for my order?

For shipments to the lower 48 states shipping and handling is based on the order size. Insurance is also included for all orders over $100.

$20.00 - $50.00 = $7.95
$50.01 - $100.00 = $9.95
$100.01 - $200.00 = $15.50
$200.01 - $300.00 = $19.00
$300.01 - $500.00 = $23.00
$500.01 - $700.00 = $28.00
$700.01 - Up = $31.00

If I order specific patterns, will you send the correct amount of each component?

No, we cannot make your supply list for you. The patterns may be made in different sizes and with gold or pearl beads, but you must use the material list for each pattern and the picture of the pattern to count what quantities of beads are needed. Since the books haven't been revised in many years, materials may not be available or have changed. However, we will have substitutions or suggestions that will be helpful. We do offer a supply guide ($4.00) with subsitute supplies and bead counts to help you with the Basic Chrismon Book.

May I buy the Chrismons in kits?

Mrs. Spencer asked that the "Classic Chrismons" not be offered as kits. The kits that we sell are "Christian Symbols". Mrs. Rufty packages these herself. (for more info see the "History of Christian Symbols" on our website)

Where are you located and what are your hours?

We are located in Salisbury, NC. As of May of 2003 Chrismons is now setup for "walk in" customers after 50 years of being mail order only. Our hours are Monday thru Friday, 10:00am until 3:00pm Eastern Time. If you have special needs please call ahead so Ms. Rufty can be available. (704) 636-7790

What type of beads do I need?

Since glass and metal beads are no longer available, we recommend using the string beads, the highest quality. The packaged beads are lighter weight and plastic coated, the type you will see in craft stores. Buying all beads of the same type will insure that your patterns will match in color.

Do I need all of the gauges of wire in the book?

Because the glass beads are no longer recommended and the holes in the new beads are not as large, the wire sizes (gauge) must be modified. We recommend using all Gold Wire, which is available in most gauges, unless the pattern calls for all pearls beads, use Silver Wire which shows less.

How do I complete a pattern that requires a wire that is too large for the hole in the (newer) beads?

First you should string your beads on a smaller gauge wire. Next, you will need a heavier wire for your base (16 or 18 gauge) to provide more stability for the pattern. Finally, you must hem the strung beads to the heavier base wire to complete the pattern.

Do you have hair wire?

We don't recommend using hair wire (Florist Wire in Silver & Green). The green doesn't match well with the bead color. The silver is not coated and will tarnish quickly.

Is there a substitute for the discontinued Gold Rose Sequins?

Substitute Pearl Rose Sequins or Gold Stars.

Is there a substitute for the discontinued 16mm Gold Starburst?

Substitute 16mm Pearl Starburst or the 18mm Gold Metal Filagree.

Is there a substitute for the discontinued Stretch Mesh?

Substitute 15" x 9' Gold Lace Fabric.

How do I store my designs after Christmas?

We recommend wrapping the designs in green wax paper. Store them in cardboard or shoeboxes. This method insures that the designs do not gather moisture. Do not store them in plastic containers or bags.

"We hope that the time comes when you create some of your own designs for your tree… new chrismons that are made may become not only the most meaningful and cherished ones on a tree, but, may serve as inspirations for others to follow" - Frances Kipps Spencer
